The Province is providing $175 million for the replacement of the school, with an additional $1 million funded by the school district. The new Mission Senior Secondary is expected to be ready for students by 2029-30. The new 1,500-seat secondary school will create an additoinal 250 seats to support future enrolment growth in the district. The school will support an Indigenous Education Centre and a Neighbourhood Learning Centre for community use and Childcare. The students will remain in the current school until the new MSS is complete.

    A Contract was established with Infrastructure BC over the Summer of 2024 to manage the process of finding a design / builder. Information will be available on their website once our contracts are in place.

    In attendance: MLA Pam Alexis, Minister of Education and Childcare Rachna Singh, MLA Surrey-Green Timbers, MLA Bob D'Eith, Maple Ridge-Mission, School Board Chair Shelley Carter and Board Trustees Linda Hamel, Tracy Loffler, Jash Bains, and Randy Cairns, Sq'ewlets First Nation Knowledge Keeper Johnny Williams, MSS Principal Jim Pierce, and Izzy Vetter, 2022 MSS Class Valedictorian. As well, Mayor Paul Horn, Mission BC and Mission Council, School District staff, the City of Mission, and local First Nations community members were on hand to support.

    Fall 2023: All requested documents have been in order and submitted to the Ministry of Education and Childcare within the requested timeframe. We are waiting for the next steps and funding from the Treasury Board.
    Senior staff have engaged the consultants who have been previously involved in preparing supporting documentation for the project. The consultants have been provided with an aggressive timeline to prepare the Project Definition Report (PDR). The report will define the scope and scale of the project and is anticipated to be finalized by September. Once it is finalized, the school district will submit it to the ministry (ahead of the provincial election).
