Student and Family Affordability Fund
Consultation has concluded
The Ministry of Education and Child Care recently announced a one-time fund of $60 million dollars to support families affected by rising costs of living due to global inflation. Mission Public Schools has received $689,814 in funding.
The purpose of this fund is to provide financial assistance to families with back-to-school costs such as fees, supplies, meal programs and other school-related costs.
Over the next few weeks, Mission Public Schools will be consulting with staff, district and parent advisory councils, Indigenous rights holders, and other stakeholders to determine how the funding can best support our students and families.

I would love to see breakfast programs added to all the schools in our district. All families are being affected by rising costs.
There are some EAs in our district that would love more hours (currently only get 25 hours pr week in elementary). Maybe we could have several EAs from each school run the breakfast programs from 7:00 - 8:10 am (15 minutes for clean up). The extra money could fund the food costs and 1.5 hours for each EA needed to help with breakfast. Breakfast would be available to all students who wanted to attend. Lots of details that would have to be worked out but just a thought at this point. Could use click and collect to pick up the groceries once every couple of weeks. Most days could be a simple breakfast offered. A variety of hot cereal, cold cereal and milk, yogurts, fruit, bread for toast. Then once a week offer a hot breakfast with pancakes/waffles, eggs, sausages/bacon.

Purchasing the grad sweaters for gr 6 students would be helpful, paying for munch a lunch orders, a cheque to families for their supplies

1.Fresh fruit and vegetables available in every class available for everyone. 2.A breakfast program at EVERY school.
A bowl of fresh snacks available in every room for all kids to have access to.

Lower prices in the cafeteria $5 for poutine or $4 for mac n cheese at hpms is unreal.

Offer each teacher a small increase for class supplies. We didnt get charged for planners this year... a nice savings. $6.00 only but nice.

My child doesn't use a locker yet the school asks for $25 every year. Why do we have to pay for a locker. Lockers shouldn't be a privilege

Eliminate the text book fee of $150 refundable deposit. A lot of families cant afford it. or eliminate the student ID fee of $25.

Field trip fees
Field trips about learning shoukd be free. Every child should be able to have a learning experience outside of school.
